Breast Reduction
Relief, Balance, and Confidence
What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportionate to your body. For many women, overly large breasts can cause physical discomfort, emotional distress, and limitations in daily activities. This procedure not only alleviates discomfort but also enhances body symmetry and self-confidence.
Breast reduction can be transformative—allowing you to enjoy a more active lifestyle, improved posture, and clothing that fits comfortably.

Understanding the The Breast Reduction Procedure
Breast reduction surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately two to four hours, depending on the extent of the reduction.
1. Incision Placement:
Common incision patterns include a circular pattern around the areola, a keyhole or racquet-shaped incision, or an anchor-shaped incision. The choice depends on the size of the reduction and the desired result.
2. Tissue Removal and Reshaping
Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed. The remaining breast tissue is lifted, shaped, and repositioned to a more youthful and natural position.
3. Areola Repositioning
If necessary, the nipple and areola may be repositioned to suit the new breast contour. In some cases, the areola may also be reduced in size.
4. Closure:
Sutures are placed deep within the breast tissue to support the newly shaped breasts, and incisions are closed with skin adhesives or surgical tape.
Breast Reduction Recovery – What to Expect
Recovery after breast reduction surgery varies by individual, but most patients experience a relatively smooth healing process.
In the first few days, your breasts will be bandaged or placed in a surgical bra to reduce swelling and support healing. Mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal and can be managed with prescribed pain medication.
Patients are typically able to return to work and light activities within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on their comfort level and the nature of their job. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. You’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions and a follow-up schedule to monitor your healing.
As swelling subsides and incisions heal, your breasts will settle into a more natural position, and your final results will become visible over the course of several months.
Breast Reduction FAQs
Will my insurance cover breast reduction surgery?
In many cases, breast reduction surgery is considered medically necessary and may be covered by insurance, especially if it’s performed to relieve physical symptoms. We can help you gather the necessary documentation for pre-authorization if needed.
Will I have scars?
Scarring is a natural part of any surgical procedure. However, our surgeons use meticulous techniques to place incisions as discreetly as possible. Scars typically fade over time and can be minimized with proper aftercare.
Can I breastfeed after breast reduction surgery?
Some women retain the ability to breastfeed after surgery, but it can be affected depending on how much tissue is removed and the surgical technique used. This should be discussed during your consultation if future breastfeeding is a priority.
Will my breasts look natural?
Yes. Our goal is to provide beautifully balanced, natural-looking results that match your body’s proportions. Most patients are thrilled with their enhanced comfort and appearance.
When will I see the final results?
Initial results are noticeable right away, though swelling and healing will continue over several months. Final results typically become visible between 3 to 6 months post-surgery.
